The Star. TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 1869.

The public will have an opportunity, this evening, of expressing an opinion on the approaching visit of His Royal Highness the Dulie of Edinburgh, and of sanctioning whatever course may be agreed on with regard to his proper reception. It fo not our intention to trench on the public privilege, or to suggest what ought to be done, further than to express a hope that all classes and all parties, in every part of the province, will cordially unite in giving a right loyal welcome to the Queen's eon. The subjoined resolutions will be proposed at the meeting this evening. We may just remark, in reference to certain strictures which we thought it our duty to make some days ago, that . his Honor the Superintendent would have called a meeting earlier had he not been unavoidably detained while on a visit to the Peninsula on public business. (1.) That this meeting learns with great satisfaction that His Royal Highness the. Duke of Edinburgh will shortly visit the colony of New Zealand, ancl desires to express its gratification that an opportunity will be afforded to the people of this Province to testify their loyally to Her Majesty the Qneen by welcoming His Royal Highness among them. (2.) That his Honor the Superintendent be desired to forward the foregoing resolution to his Excellency the Governor, with a request that he will communicate the substance of it to His Royal Highness,

and that his Honor he further requested to express on the part of the people of Canterbury the pleasure which they will have in agajn seeing his Excellency among them on the occasion of the visit of His Royal Highness. (<},) That the cordial co-operation of the several districts and towns of the Province should be invited to secure a fitting reception of His Royal Highness during his visit, and that with this view the following gentlemen be requested to form a general committee to make the necessary arrangements.
