AKAROA HORTICULURAL SOCIETY.
The second show of the above society for the I current season was held in the Town Hall, [ Akaroa, on Wedneaday, the 3rd inst. The weather, contrary to expectation, was all that could have been desired; but we are sorry we cannot say the same as regards the i attendance at the show. There seems a peculiar apathy among the people bf Akaroa as regards the Horticultural Society, and were it not for tbe efforts of a few, the society would soon become a thing of the past. The present show was far superior to its predecessors in the exhibits of fruits and pot plants, the last, especially, being of a much better class than in previous shows. The flowers shown were very indifferent, but the vegetables, although not so numerously exhibited as on former occasions, were decidedly good, and carefully grown. The Rev W. Aylmer, Mr W. Jolly, and Mr G. Felgate officiated as judges, and their awards were as follows:—, Prize List. Greenhouse Plants— lst and 2nd prize, H. Watkins. Fuchsias — Ist and 2nd prize, H. Watkins.
