Commercial.
Mr C. W. Turner held a sale of pastoral property at Messrs Miles and Co.'s rooms, Hereford street, yesterday. There was a large attendance, but the bidding was not very brisk. The first lot submitted was Run No. 116, on the South bank of the Rakaia, containing 20,000 acres of land— 1250 of which are freehold— and 10,000 sheep of mixed ages. Mr Cathcart Wason, a gentleman recently arrived from England, opened the bidding at £9500, and after an . intermediate advance of £250, it was knocked down to him for £10,000. The run was sold by order of the mortgagee. The second lot comprised 26,500 acres, known as the Gray's HUI nm, near Timaru, with 1 2,000 mixed sheep, and extensive improvements. The bidding commenced at £5000 and terminated at £7000, Mr G. Gould being nominally the .purchaser. The third lot consisted of 23,000 •acres in the same district, with 6500 sheep, but no reasonable offer being made, it was withdrawn. Both the last named lots were offered at the instance of Messrs S. S. and J. Field.
