XColonel Whitmore has weeded the Constabulary, and shipped sixty of the worst characters by the Sturt to Waikato. The Chronicle understands that several members of the Assembly are about to memorialise the Governor to call an early meeting of Parliament. The Phoebe and several other' vessels are detained through stress of weather. The Postmaster-General gods back to Canterbury for a short time. The Gazette contains a proclamation of the Imperial Act removing doubts as to appointment of Legislative Councillors, also a Commission to inquire into the administration of Waste Lands in Otago, in terms of the resolution of the Assembly. The Government intends to enforce the penalties against the Panama Com* pany for breach of contract, the penalties to be deducted from the subsidy due. The Governor goes to Wairarapa to attend the races.
