[by electric telegraph.] Wellington, Jan. 27, 7.25 p.m. Colonel Whitmore's Head-quarters have been moved forward. Woodall's redoubt is held by the Wanganui Veteran Volunteers, who volunteered for active service. Four posts beyond Kaiiwi are now held by our men and cavalry, in advance towards Okehu. The men are all employed in building redoubts, and strengthening positions. St Johu's reinforcement has arrived, and the force is now very large, but will be increased by an additional IOj) native militia, which Government has ordered to be enrolled. It is ascertained that eight Hauhaus wero killed and five wounded in the cavalry engagement on Sunday last. Mr Booth, R.M., is to be removed to Poverty Bay ; he is very unpopular at Wanganui, especially since his unfounded charges against tbe volunteer cavalry. A meeting is called for to-morrow of persons desirous of constructing a floating dock here similar to that in Otago. The Bishop of Dunedin is a passenger per Ruahine. The Advertiser this morning is authorised to contradict, as totally untrue, the statement in the Canterbury Press' Wellington telegrams, as

to a disagreement between Messrs Stafford and Hall relative to Mr Barff's appointment as a Justice of the Peace. The Evening Post to-night reiterates the story. The names of the men killed in yesterday's engagement are Cummins and Kelly.
