KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tuesday, Jan. 19. Present : The Mayor, Councillors Newnam, Oram, Dudley, Kerr, and Birch. The minutes of last meeting were read and onfirmed. Copies of outward correspondence were cad. His Excellency the Governor's reply to the ddress presented by the Council was laid pon the table. The Public Works Committee reported that ley had caused the well in Cookson street to c repaired, in accordance with the Council's istructions. The following accounts were then passed, nd ordered to be paid : — Engrossing address, !1 Is ; repairs to bridge, XI 5s ; Birch and to., £2 3a Bd. The Mayor said that his Excellency the tovernor, on leaving the town, desired him 0 express to the Council, and through them 3 the people of Kaiapoi, his thanks for the lanner in which he bad been received. A list of defaulting ratepayers was laid on le table, and after some discussion, it was ef erred to a com mittee, consisting of Counciljrs Kerr and Birch, to report at the nextmeetig, and in'the meantime, to have power to rder summary proceedings where they see t. An extension of time was granted to the 'ire Prevention committee, also to that apointed to correspond with the Government n the bridge question. Councillor Dudley moved that a sum not xceeding £10 be granted to the committee or his rxctllency's reception towards the xpense incurred. Councillor Kerr seconded the motion, 'hich was withdrawn on Councillor Bird rawing attention to the fact that previous otice should have been given. A vote of thanks was passed to the Mayor nd the Reception committee for the manner 1 which the Governor's reception had been arried out. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had Bsisted in the erection of the triumphal arch.
