High Water. — Jan. -7—9.24 a.m; 9.45 p.m.

The vessels reported loading at London for •Canterbury, up to Nov. 4, are : — Lady, JoceIrn Smith; Mat'oaka, Stevens; Dagmar, Brunstrom. The s.s. Storm Bird, Capt Doile, arrired in harbour this morning at 11 o'clock from Dunedin. Cleared Otago heads at 11 a.m. .yesterday ; experienced fine weather ; sailed for Wellington at 3 p.m. The ship Light Brigade was towed out of harbour yesterday by the s.s. Keera, and anchored about a mile outside the heads. The port chain which had rode out the late heavy easterly gale parted at 3 a.m., and about 75 fathoms chain was lost; it is supposed that the chain got nipped in the hawse pipe, there '.being no strong wind at the time of the accident. Yesterday afternoon the s.s. Gazelle succeeded in grappling and buoying the chain ; the lighter Wellington was also sent •down and succeeded in raising the chain and .anchor, which were put on board early this morning. The s.s. Gothenbug, Captain Underwood, arrived in harbour yesterday, at 2.30 p.m. She loft Hobson's Bay at 4 p.m. on 26th ult. ; passed Port Phillip Heads at 7 and Cape Schanck at 9 p.m., and Swan Island at 6 p.m. on the 27th ; experienced fine weather and winds during the passage ; made the Solander at 11 a.m. on the 31st, and .entered Bluff Harbour at 4 p.m. same day, .discharged 100 tons cargo and sailed at 4.30 ■j>.m. on Jan. 1. ; arrived at Port Chalmers at 9 a.m. on the 2nd ; discharged cargo and sailed at 6 p.m on 4th, and arrived at Lyttelton as above. The Gothenburg brings our portion of the English mails via Suez. We are obliged to. Mr Kirk, purser, for files. The Gothenburg sailed for Wellington last night at 8 o'clock.
