Correspondence.
BOATING. TO THE EDITOR OP THE STAR. Sir, — You are probably aware that previous to the four-oared race at the Heathcote Regatta being rowed, the Canterbury Rowing Club sent to the Secretary of the Heathcote Regatta a challenge to row the winner a three-mile race on the Avon, which was accepted conditionally by the Railway Rowing Club. No particular course was mentioned ; it was therefore taken for granted that the usual course— from DeTroy's to the Willows at Ward's Brewery — would be the course on this occasion. The race was fixed for this evening, at their request ; but at the last moment, the Canterbury Rowing Club want to make the course from New Brighton, up stream, or on the Waimakariri. It is rather unusual for the challengers in an open race to have the whole of the conditions of their own making, or to auit their own convenience ; and as the la9t condition would prove extremely inconvenient to the crew representing the R.R.C., they have been compelled to decline acceding to it, and hence the race will not take place. ONE OF THE CREW OF THE LURLINE, R.R.C. Christchurch, sth Jan,, 1868. [The above was received too late for yesterday's publication.— Ed. Star.]
