This Day, 10.11 a.m. Cobb's coach arrived late last night from Wanganui. A Pinnimoreand Bryce's cavalry — 100 strong — were out reconnoitring on Dec. 26. They observed that a pallisadiDg had been recently erected at They fired at it from a distance ; the fire was returned in a .lesultory manner. Thinking that only a few Hau-haus occupied it, the pallisadiug was attacked at close quarters, when a heavy fire was returned. Sergeant Maxwell was killed.
