LATEST FROM WANGANUI.
This Day, 10.11 a.m. Cobb's coach arrived late last night from Wanganui. A Pinnimoreand Bryce's cavalry — 100 strong — were out reconnoitring on Dec. 26. They observed that a pallisadiDg had been recently erected at They fired at it from a distance ; the fire was returned in a .lesultory manner. Thinking that only a few Hau-haus occupied it, the pallisadiug was attacked at close quarters, when a heavy fire was returned. Sergeant Maxwell was killed. Five Hau-haus, climbing the pallisading from the inside, were picked off. A portion of the Hau-haus left the pah, and occupied patches of bush in the line of retreat taken by the cavalry, but there were no further casualties on our side. *Th\ The Wauganui Volunteer Cavalry have been struck off pay, in conse quence of disobeying Colonel Lrams' <»rders.
