» CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Larceny. — Charles Elliott was brought up in custody, charged with stealing firewood be'ont-ii'g to V). M Kay, Ferry Hoad. Prosecutor, in evidence, said he had missed some timber from a stack on the left-bank of the river Heathcote, and suspecting some one had stolen it, he marked the ends of several of

the pieces remaining on the stack with pencil. Passing prisoner's house, on a subsequent morning, he found some of the latter partly nnder the house. The piecps produced in the Court were marked in a similar manner to • that he had left on the stack, but he could not swear to it being the same timber. In defence, prisoner called Allan Davis, who i said that he had given prisoner's wife some timber from the stack, and the prosecutor acknowledging that this witness had authority to take the timber, the case was dismissed with a caution. CIVIL CABEB. Judgment was given for full amount and ,' costsin the following oases : — J. Dempsey v. J. Morgan, £3 14s; G. F. Maskem v. John Thompson, £6 5s ; Thos. Hancock v Agnes Hossa'-k, £28 lis 10; Same v. Same, £21 2s 6d; E. W. Roper v. A. Hossack. £4 7s Id; J. B. Dale and Co. v. A. Hassack, £30; A. Mathews v. A. Hassack, £51 15s 91. In the case of 11. Ford v. M. B. Hart, £2 ss, judgment was given for defendant, and in F. D. Luekie v. M. Bing, £8 13s 9d, of which £3 7s 9d had been tendered, judgment was given fpr £7 6s, and costs.
