WE, the undersigned, believing the state of public affairs in this colony to be foil of peril :— that the war at present existing will entail additional burdens on the -people, already taxed to the utmost limit : — that the present excessive taxation paralyses the best efforts of the colonists, and prevents intending, emigrants from coming to these .shores i and believing, also, that the Colonial Government and the General Assembly, as constituted, can neither legislate for, nor adn minister 'satisfactorily, the affairs of the colony — ; Hereby form ourselves into AN ASSOCIATION With the following objects in view . — To return Members to . the House of . , Representatives pledged to vote against war expenditure for the sub ; , jugation of the native race.
