The concluding examination ok place at 6 o'clock last night. There were large number of persons present, amongst uom we noticed his Worship the Mayor, q -c Rev. G. J. Cholmondeley, Messrs H. A >rize was awarded by Dr Donald for the vest darned stockings. After the exarainaion, Dr Donald addressed the scholars, and old them their work was done for the half ear. He had now the pleasure of telling hem that the holidays were to comaence. He might say that the whole of the ■chool had been thoroughly examined by the chool committee, and by himself. TbeiiN 3ible knowledge was good, their spelling par-.' icularly so, hut their reading might be etter, and he hoped it would be so during he next six months. The prizes were well eserved, .and were well earned. Mrs F.; vnowles then distributed the prizes to the' cholars, which consisted of a number f handsome books, &c. The Rev. F. Cnowles said he usually gave an annual rize to the best Scripture reader, and he had luch pleasure in doing so this year. Dr Jonald's prize occasioned some merriment, ut in giving it. he remarked that he coh«t ered it a very' essential thing in a girl's luxation that she should be able to darn a air of stockings. It had been stated that they did not come neatly dressed, but he must say they were neat on the present occasion. Lastly, he would enjoin them to be neat, punctual, and attentive. (Cheers.) The Rev. J. G. J. Cholmondeley addressed a few words to the children, expressing his pleasure at the examination, which, in some things, was not quite up to the mark of former years. This, kowever, might be attributed to many of the older scholars having left, and only younger members remaining. • : • The Rev. F. Knowles also expressed his pleasure and satisfaction at the examination. They were a credit to their teachers. Mr Ward, master, on behalf of himself i and Miss Bunker, returned thanks for the compliment passed on them. In reply to the remarks of Dr Donald, he said the reason the children were late, in many instances arose from the fact that they had to carry water from long distances for supplying their needs, He then announced that the school would re-assemble on the 25th January. The scholars separated after giving three cheers for the Rev F. Knowles, Dr Donald, and their master.
