Wellington, This Day, 11.2 a.m. A Government telegram atatea that a party of friendly Natives, Bent out by Major Lambert from Wairoa (East Coast) on the 14th, took prisoners eight men, twelve women, and eight children, and captured twelve canoes. The steamer from Wanganui this morning reports that 60 of the Cavalry Volunteers have destroyed five small villages, recovered 250 sheep, and killed two rebels. There is no sign of any movement by Colonel Lyon. It seems to be that Tito's forbearance, and not our own good management, keeps us safe. Tito is still at Nukumaru. A memorial is in circulation, protestingagainst Colonel Whitmore returning to take the command in the Wanganui district. )|At a meeting of the settlers m the Wairarapa district, convened by Mr Bunny, a memorial was adopted, praying the Government to erect stockades in the townships, and to continue the war until the rebels are exterminated.
