Lecture. — The fifth of the series of geological lectures in course of delivery at the Literary Institute, by ,Dr Haast E.R.S.. was not given last evening, in consequence of the inclemency of the .weather. Bankruptcy.- I—A1 — A meeting of creditors in eatate of Henry Dodd, cab driver, Christchurch, was to have .been held at the Registrar's Chamber, at 1 J o'clock this morning, but lapsed through non-attendance. Another meeting is called for Wednesday next, in pursuance of the Amended Act. Mr Slater is solicitor fpr the bankrupt. No. 2 Company, C.R.V.— The flrijf parade of this comparty, under the new regime, will be held at the Drill shed this evening, commencing at half-past seven. .- Registrar's RETUBNS;^-The births of 95 children were registered in the Christchurch district during ;the risphth of November, as follows-— males, 46; females, 49. The deaths during the same period were 13. The Legal Profession. — ilr James Thomas Erskine Rogan, of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, M.A., and of the Inner Temple, London, was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the "Supreme Court of New Zealand, by bis Honor Mr Justice Gresson, on Friday last. Literary Institute. — A meeting of the entertainment committee was held at the Institute on Monday evening. Mr E. W. Hishop in the chair. Several accounts were passed and ordered to be paid, and no other business being on hand in consequence of the temporary cessation of the entertainments, the meeting adjourned. The committee have waived their right to occupy the Town Hall on the stipulated evenings, as the Japanese troupe have engaged it for a definite period. The Japanese Jugglers. — There was rather a thin attendance at the Town Hall last night, but the extreme unpleasantness of the weather could not be expected to result? in anything else. On the contrary, it was a matter of surprise that an audience of any kind could be got together. The programme submitted was virtually the same as that of the opening night, but was carried through, if anything, with more ease and success. The audience were loudly . demonstrative in their applause throughout, and the performance gave full satisfaction to all.
