Local and General.

""•" Kaiapot Cricket Club. — A general meeting of the club was held last evening; Mr J. C. Porter, Vice-president, in the chair. A code of rules was adopted. The most noticeable feature of these is the imposition of a fine of Is for non-attendance at the Saturday practices without valid excuse, and a fine of 5s for disappointing the club when a member is appointed and consents to play in a match. Volunteer Concert. — A concert will be given at the Town Hall, this evening for the benefit of Gunner G. Hart who was injured during the recent sham fight at White's Bridge. A choice programme, in which most of our local talent is represented, will be submitted, and the circumstances under which the appeal is made fully entitle the promoters to a good house. N^ X Drinking Fountain. — The drinking fountain attached to the base of the ornamental lamp opposite Cobb and Co.'b office, in High street, has, after a lengthened delay, been made available for public use. When first designed the water was ejected from a lion's mouth, but its height from the basin being productive of some unpleasantness during high winds, the flow was stopped until a more suitable arrangement could be made. This has now been effected by substituting for the lion's head a dolphin, which is more in character with the design of the erection. Wssl»yaN. — On Sunday last, a pretty little chapel in the centre of Rangiora av»s opened for public worship, the services being performed by the Rer. R. Bavin, of Christchurch. On Monday, a bazaar was held in the building, when a large quantity of useful and ornamental goods, provided by ladies of the congregation and their friends, were disposed of for the benefit of the building fund. In the evening, a tea meeting was held, when addresses were delivered by the Revds. R. bavin and A. Reid, and Messrs Keel and Sharplin. The cost of the building was £190. Towards this, by subscriptions and collections, the bazaar and tea meeting, a sum of £172 1 7s 2d, was realised.
