The Star Office, This Day. A sale of new season's teas, ex Sampan, from Foo-chow, took place at Mr W. H. Hargreaves' mart, Cathedral square, to-day; Mr C. W. Turner, the consignee, officiated as auctioneer. There was a large attendance of buyers. The quantity submitted to the hammer consisted of 254 chests of congou, 1135 half-chests do, and 725 boxes ; and the terms of purchase were as follows : — Under £200, 3 months; over £200 and under £400, 3 and 4 months ; over £400 and under £500, 3, 4, and 5 months; and over £500, 3, 4, 5, aud 6 months. The sale was satisfactory as far as it had proceeded when this was written. Very few lots were passed in, and prices ranged from Is 6d to Is lOJd. An excellent sample, comprising 50 halfchests (42 lbs), brought a good price, 30 of the number fetched 2s3£d, and the remainder 2s 3Jd. As the sale of the boxes had only commenced, we cannot publish the prices in to-day's issue.
