CONSTITUTIONAL. REFORM ASSOCIATION. V\7E, the undersiemd. bellying the stnte VV of public affairs in this colony to be full of peril :•— that the war at present existing will entail additional burdens on the people, already taxed to the utmost limit : — that the present excessive taxation paralyses the best efforts of the colonists, and prevents intending emigrants from coming to these shores : and believing, also, that the Colonial Government nnd the Gtneral Assimbly, as constituted, can neither legislate for, nor administer satisfactorily , the affairs of the colony — Hereby form ourselves into AN ASSOCIATION, With the following objects in view . — To return Members to the House of Representatives pledged to vote against war expenditure for the sub jugation of the native race. To collect and diffuse statistical Information, ami endeavour, by public meetings and all other lawful means, to induce the people of both Inlands to petition her Majesty and the Imperial Parliament to revise the Constitution, aud thereby obtain separate legislatures for the Northern ami Middle Islands, with a Federal Congress for the establishment of a Customs Tar'ff ; the maintenance of the public credit by payment of interest and sinking fund on Colonial Joans; the management of the Marine Postal Services; and proviiling for and conducting external defence.
