fI3Y BUB3IA.MNE TELEGItAJPH.] Wellington, Nov. 11, 4.12 p.m. The Sturt, from Patea, .conveyed the remains of Major Hunter and Kepa for interment at Wanganui. Six of the wounded were also brought to Wauganui, but the remainder were not fit to bo removed. The Wanganui Times of Tuesday s:iys : — " Whituiore was obliged to fall back on Patea instead of renewing the attack as at first contemplated. Yesterj day morning, Whitinore with the main body of the force inarched from Patea for Nukutnaru via Wairoa. The women and children . having been taken to Patea on Suuday, came to Wanganui by tho Sturt last night. It ia therefore supposed that ■Whitmore's object in marching by Wairoa was to take the meu from that rodoubt with him and abandon the place. This is the more probable as the Wairoa redoubt was attacked on Sunday ir'ght, but the assailants were driven off. Major Eraser and a few men only remain at Patea. It ia feared that it also must be abandoned." Aperahama writes saying, thab the main body of the native contingent was ordered to remain at the edge of the bush by Colouel Whitmore, and that their not assisting at the attack was not their fault. They all appear to be returning to Wanganui. Thereportof the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company waa carried last night by 40 to 16. Msjor Atkinson has resigned hi* seat in the Assembly for Taranaki.
