A special meeting of the Council, to hear appeals against the new rate rail, took place in the Council Chamber yesterday at noou. Present: Councillors England. Allwright, Wilhox, Ward, Hawkins, Hargreaves, and Chalmers, the Mayor preniding. The following • appt-als were heard and decided : — J. Ward, double cottage, objection that he was not the occupier allowed, the name of Beasley to be inserted in the roll -, same, Highland cottxge, £37, not allowed ; same, Haywood's paddock not allowed ; tame, portion of land on Dudley Divinity scholarship trust, not allowed ; Mr E. A Hargreaves, Queen's hotel, £300, reduced to £250 ; wood store, on Norwich Quay, £I*2o, reduced to £80 ; house and garden not allowed; shop and dwelling- house in Oxford street, not allowed. Mr J. S. V/illcox, atone house in London street, £45, reduced to £35. Mr W. Cummins, house in London street, £100, not allowed; hou-e and workshop, £57, reduced to £55. Mr John Rutledge, house, £16, reduced to £15. Mr W. Davis, Canterbury Hotel, £300, reduced to £250. Mr H. N. Nalder, house in Jackson's road, not allowed. J. T. Curtis. Taylor and Co , store, £200, reduced to £175 J. Hill, Albion Hotel, £200, not allowed; same, re P. Hoakins; same, re J. Wilkin and K.
