TENDERS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE BTAK. Sir, — I should consider it n great favour if you would insert this in yoiu valuable paper. I do not ask on nay own account alone, but on the part of others alao who haye been equally duped (for such I must call it) into giviiiK in tenders for the erection of a dwel-ling-house, as advertised, for Messrs Wilson" and M' Alpine. On reading the advertisement, I was deputed by my partners to go and see the plans and specifications. On doing so, I returned to them, and we decided on giving in a tender for ihe same, which I did on Friday, the *3rd Oct. I called on Saturday, the 24th, to know the result, and found that Hie tenders had been all examined, and was told that notice of Che accepted tender would be adverti?ed in Monday morning's paper, the 26th. Accordingly I read that the tender of Andrew Mcfhale was accepted. Now, sir, I beg to state, on Andrew McPhale's own words, that he had not given, in a tender as late as two o'clock on Saturday, being some hours after the other tenders hud been opened. This reminds me very much of the South-

land affair, only that it appears rather more barefaced, inasmuch as they opened all the tenders, even before M'Phale made his out. Perhaps he was spared the trouble of doing so, while other* poor men were robbed of both time and money. You will understand this when I explain that I left my work to go j and see the plan and specification, which spoilt one day. I then, made out the tender, and gave it in to the specified place. Then, again, I went to know the result, which took part of another day. Now, Sir, can you call this justice to those who tendered ? Why did not Mr M' Alpine ■ettle it when he opened the tenders ? Is j there no recompense for such loss of time ? It is becoming an every-day occurrence. Your obedient servant, ONE WHO TENDERED.
