High water, Oct. 25 — 11.35 a.m.; 11.57 p.m. „ „ 26 — 00.00 a.m.; 00.19 p.m. The brig Lalla Rookh has discharged her cargo and hauled into the stream this morning. The Canterbury schooner hauled into the screw pile jetty this morning to discharge her cargo of timber, The barque John Knox cleared the Customs this morning for Sydney. She was towed into the fairway this morning by the jrs. Betsy Douglas and will sail to night. J^The s.s. Storm Bird arrived in harbour this morning, 12.30, from Wellington, left that port at 2 p.m., yesterday, and experienced fine weather. She sailed for Dunedin, yia intermediate Ports, this afternoon. The brig Deva Casa, L. Simpson, arrived in harbour this morning from Newcastle. liefb on the 7th instant ; experienced light westerly winds and fine weather to Cape which was sighted on the 16th ; nothing worthy of notice occurred until Sunday night, the 18th, when at 12.10 the ship received a fearful shock, and she appeared to strike on some rock with just sufficient water to carry her over it. She was then going at the rate of 7 knots, and it almost brought the ship up stationary. She appeared to be ruuning over some rough rock, the shock of the ship was something fearful Every one on deck was taken off their feet. Every lamp in the ship was put out, glasses all shattered to pieces, while every timber in the ship appeared to be tearing assunder, the shock lasted about a minute. The helm was put to starboard at the first shock ; and after it was over she came to N.N.E. ; cast the lead, but found no bottom at 20 fathoms ; sounded again, and found no bottom at 50 fathoms. I then concluded that the ship had struck on some wrock, and that some portion of it had fouled her bottom, as the ship continued to vibrate for upwards of an hour, the ship was stearing east only at the time, about 20 miles IS. by E/ from Farewell Spit, wind at west, and fine clear weather. On Monday night, the 19th inst., heard subterranean rumbling, and felt the ship vibrate several times in the night; the ship was then about 15 miles N.W. from Steven's Island; passed through Cook's Straits on the Slst inst; had light variable winds and calms from thence to the port. There seems to be some mistake about the Ida Zeigler. In the Home News received by the Suez mail, she is reported to have sailed for Canterbury on Aug. 3 ; and in the Some News by the Panama mail she is again reported in the same way. But, on turning to the list of exports in the Home News, we find that she is set down as bound for Auckland. We believe this will be found to be correct. The M.A.N.Z. Co.'s s.s. Alhambra, Capt £bhn M'Lean commander, arrived in hartliis morning at 8.45. Left Port Phillip Heads at 6.30 p.m on the Bth instant; passed Wilson's Promontory at 2.30 a.m. on the 9th. For first part experienced favourable •winds and fine weather; during latter part, however, head winds and thick weather were met with; arrived oil! Hokitika at 8 a.m. on the 14th; but, owing to the bad state of the bar, she could not be f.ea-.lered, and at 10 a.m. ou the 15th, owing .to the increasing gale, ran to sea ; returned same evcuiug, but was again obliged to put to sea ; -after once more returning succeeded in being tendered by p.s. Yarra, and left at 7 p.m. on the 21sb; on the 22nd at 7 p.m., owing to a dense fog. was obliged to heave to for two hours off Stephen's Island; the fog having cleared away, the engines were again started until 2a.m. on the 23rd, when she was hovr-to off Wellington Heads, and arrived at the wharf at 1.30 a.m.; left again at. 2.30 a.m. same day, and arrived at Lyt>tc)t on -as above. Wie are obliged to Mr Saihsbuiy for full files. Slie sailed for Duuedin this evening.
