YACHTING AT HOME.

The following are from the Home 'News received by the Panama mail: — INTERNATIONAL RU3E OF YACHTS FROM DIKPFE TO RYDE AND BACK. Intelligence was received at Kyde on Sunday night, August 23, of the conclusion of the great international race between the yachts of England and France, which commenced at Dieppe at I o'clock on Thursday afternoon, August 20, for the prize (value 2000 f ) given by his Majesty the Emperor of the French, with a second prize consisting of a gold medal and 500 f., given by Mr Thomas Broad wood, the course being from Dieppe to Hyde and back. A French war steamer was sent over to Hyde as a mark vessel, aud round which tbe yachts hud to go. The vessels that started were the Mystdre, Croiaay, Albertine, ad Lynx. The course towards Ryde wa9 a very long one, on account of contrary wiuds and tide; and they did not arrive until Friday after midday. The following was the time taken of the two first vessels, nothing having been seen of the others :— Albertine, lb 8m; Croissy, 3h 19m. The vessels having rounded the French steamer, then proceeded back again to the eastward, with a rattling breeze. In the oourse of Friday night they felt the full force of the inuth-weat gale which set in and drove them before it like lightning, as waa evident from the time of their arrival. On coming to Ryde the leading schooner occupied upwards of 24 houra, but on the return the same yes els covered the distance in lesa than half that time. The following was the time of arrival of the first two vessels :—Albertl me, lh 11m Os ; Croissy, 4h 56m Os. It will thus be seen that the AlDertine — formerly belonging to Lord Londeaborou'jh, but now owned by Captain Phibbß— winß the firßt prize, entirely running away from the best French vessel sent to sail Agaiust her. The Croissy takes the second prize, and as that ia given by an Englishman, of course in the eyes of a French owner it will possess an additional value. The Anglo-American Yacht Race round the Isle of Wight. A splendid American yacht, called the Sappho, recently arrived at Cowes. She crosaed the Atlantic in lesa than 15 days. Her commander challenged tho fineat English yachts to race with the Sappho round the lale of Wight. This challenge was accepted by the Condor, ( >imara, Aline, and Cambria, and the r;ice was sailed on Tuesdaj', Aug. 25. The course was once round the Isle of Wight ; the Saj>pho to sail the Oimara on equal terms, and the other boats as follows : — Condor and Aline allowed by Sappho 9m. 125., Cambria 11m. 555.; Condor and Aline allowed by Oitrara 6ra. 16a., Cambria Bm. 595. Starting before the win i at 10 a.m. for the east end of the island from fowea Koads, the Sappho ran the English yachts hard atone time; but on luffing tothe wind round Bembridge Ledge she fell to leeward of a 1 the others, and was completely outpaced by them. Soon after, carrying away her martingale and jibboom, she did still worse, and all her chances of success in the race were gon?. The four English yachts beat up to windward from Bembridge to the Needles, over a lee tide, in close company, under a freshening breeze, and after weathering the Nee lies ran up for Cowes Koads, where they finished the race ns follows : — Cambria, 6h. l"m. 305.; Aline, 6h. 19m.368.; Oimara, 6h. 22m. 555.; Condor. Sh. 25m. 40a.; Sappho, 7h. 58m. The Cambria won the race without receiving hor time allowance, 'lhe Sappho was many miles astern when the othera came in, and, apart from^her accident, never had a chance.
