CHRISTCHURCH. This Dat. (Ilefore C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) 7*?RUNKENNEBB. — Frederick Rowe was Drought up in custody, charged on two informations, with having been drunk and disorderly, resisting the police, and assaulting a female. Constable Wilson said about half past twelve this morning he saw prisoner in Cashel street, near Oxford Terrace. He was creating a disturbance, and went to the rear of his own house for a post, and commenced beating the door in. Witness ordered him to desist, but he would not, saying he would smash the windows as well. Witness then arrested him, but lie resisted, and another constable had to be sent for before he could be conveyed to the watch-house. Prisoner did not deny the offence. In snpport of the second charge, Mrs Redfern said between ten and eleven o'clock last night she was near Windmill road, when prisoner came up to her and took hold of her hand. He would not let go his hold when requested, and evidently mistook her for a woman of loose character. He did not, however, attempt any liberties or use im proper language, and eventually permitted lier to proceed homej Prisoner said he did not remember ajvjjning whatever of the matter. HeywrSintoxicated and was very sorry for his conduct. Inspector Pender stated he ifas usually a quiet and orderly man. "jsHis Worship said although prisoner's first offence interference with females in the streets, could not be tolerated, and he would be fined 20s\ James Faulkner, on bail for having been "drunk and incapable on Wednesday night, but who failed to appear when called yesterday, was brought up in custody, and stated that his reason for not doing so was that he was so ill from the effects of the drink, that he could not get out of bed in time for the Court, and had no one to send After hearing the evidence of Sergt. Mc Knight upon tha matter, his Worship accepted this view of the case, and imposed a penalty of 20s in lieu of prisoner forfeiting his recognizance.
