♦ The Slar Office, This D >.". Sydney. — By the John Knox, which arrived at Lyitelton this morning, we have files to Oct. 3. The Morning Herald of that date reports : — At the produce sales held today, there was spirited competition for all offered, pavl-cularly so for shipping parcels of tallow, and srles showed a further advance in prices. Hides also realised very full rates, ranging up to 22s ; calfskins, 2s to 6s 9d ; liorsc hides, 6s Gd to 7s; foal sV'ns, Is 2d ; horsehair, lo^d to 12Jd ; shank bones, 10s ; horns, l.Osto 14s Gd. Melbocrxe. — By way of Sydney we have one day's later commercial news. A telegram dated Oct. 2 says : — The managers of the banks at B'.illarat have been fined for having iins'is'.niped weights. Flow, £14 10s ; malt. lls 3d ; there is some speculation in corneack*, at 12s. Ahet^vil'E. — Our dates are to Oct. 2, by telegram via Sydney : — The corn market is slightly firmer. As there are inquiries from Melbourne for wheat, holders are less anxious to sell. Iv flour a higher price is asked, consequently there are no transactions. Sales of cor slacks hare been made at IPs. The weather is a^aln fine and warm.
