— -$- — The Star Office, This Day. The Customs revenue collected at Chrlßtehurch to-day amounted to £107 15s fid. 'J he Customs revenue collected at Lyttelton to-day, amounted to £75 13s 7d. The following were the items : — Spirits, 126 gals, £75 lis lld; light dues, ls Bd. The late fine weather has had the effect of improving trade slightly, but the sales effected are still of a -trifling nature, and oa!/ for immediate requirements. A better feeling exists in the grain marfcftt, and an impression that there is not anything like enough Wheat in the province to carry us on until harvest has made holders more firm in their demands. Oats are still ihqTiircd for, and 2s freely given; a quantity offered at au.tion on Monday last would have feirty tented the market, but the way in which the supposed owner's representative r?m the biddings up to 2s 3d. prevented competition. Barley there is no alteration in. At the Carlton saleyards on Wednesday last, the stock brought forward for sale was 3Q : head of cattle and about 1000 sheep. The attendance was about the average, but the biddings were very slack. Messrs H. Mataon snd Co. offered 16 head of cattle, and sold wives at £2 10a to £3 ss; cows from £6 10s

to £7 os; one bull at £7 10s; and store stock at very low prices. At the White Hart yards they penned 21 head of cattle, and sold 3 three-year old steers at £9 15s per head; 2 do do, at £8 15s do; 2 do do, £7 5s do; 2 eighteen months old do, £5 7s 6d do; 4 do do, £5 5s do, On Thursday, at their offices, they sold the freehold lands, &c, in the estate of Mr John Brook, as follows, viz : — Lot 1, comprising 200 acres, with farm house, aud 70 acres in wheat — good land, with the exception of about 70 acres which is rather light — brought £1315. Lot 2, 100 acres very fair land, brought £605. Lot 3, 60 acres of first claps land, with 20 acres in wheat, brought £520.
