KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tuesdat, Sept. 11. The Council met at the usual hour. Present; The Mayor and all the members. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Provincial Engineer, enclosing the plans for a swing bridge made by Mr Cuff, under his direction; also proper specifications. He anticipated that the delay which would arise from having to procure ironbark piles would weigh very much with the Council; nevertheless, he strongly advocated their being used, as he did not consider native wood capable of beinidriven to a sufficient depth; he also expressed his willingness to superintend the construction of the bridge with the consent of the Government. The plans and specficalions were reid and considered. Councillor Buddie moved " That the plan as approved by the Provincial Engineer be accepted." The motion was seconded by Councillor Kerr, and carried. Councillor Newuham moved "Th;it Mr piff be requested to furnish detailed drawings and specifications for the bridge before Monday next, and that an additional sum of £10 be granted to him for that purpose." The motion was seconded by Councillor Oram and carried. Councillor Kerr proposed "That tenders be invited for thu erection of a new swing bridge, plans and specifications to be seen on nnd after Monday next, the 7th inst., at the Provincial * ngineer's oflice, Cliristchurch, and the Town Clerk's office, Kaiapoi. Tenders to be sent in at the Council's next ordinary meeting on the 15th inst." The motion was seconded by Councillor NewDham and carried. The Clerk reported that Hunter and Veysey had completed their contract for the repairing and gravelling certain footpaths in the town to his satisfaction. He stated that the Council had to their credit at the bank £76 9s lld, which the payment of the accounts laid before them would reduce to £19 3s 3.1. On the motion of Councillor Kerr, it was resolved that the following accounts be paid: —

Councillor Buddie proposed, and Councillor Newnham seconded a cordial vote of thanks to the retiring members. Carried.
