LYTTELTON.
Mondat, August 31. 'Present : — Councillors Ens-land, Alwright, Wilcox, Mutton, Chalmers, Ward, the Mayor presiding. The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed. The amount of rates collected during the week was £1 12s 6d. The following correspondence was read : — A letter from Dr Donald in (uiriny why the Government should not re-enter on the market reserve section and build a Resident Magistrate's Court thereon, provoked a loog discuseion. On Mia motion of Councillor Wilcox, secondod by Coun -illor Ward, it was resolved to obtain the Solicitor's opinion on the subject, as to whether the Govern ent could enter upon the land and build thereon. A discussion followed respecting Governor's Bay Road. It was resolved that the foreman inspect the same and bring up a report. The Works Committee's report was read. It recommended the making of two shoots on Jackson's road, and a stone culvert to carry off tho storm water. On the motion of Councillor Ward, seconded hy Councillor Chalmers, it was resolved that the work be done at a cost not exceeding £20. The weekly pay-sheet, amount ng to £7 2s 3d, was passed and ordered to be paid.
