On the motion of Mr Boag, seconded by Mr Anderson, Mr Grahame was appointed honorary treasurer, After considerable discussion, ft was proposed and agreed to, that there be only one class, open to all Canterbury, and that the lirst prize lie £1/5 in money, aud a gold modal of tho value of £/5. It was also decided that threo oilier prizes should bo given, the amount of which will hereafter be determined, when the committee are In a position to estimate the amount of funds which will bo at disposal. St At.iianß Hand of Hon:. —The usual f irtnightly meeting of tliis society took place last evening, in the Mutual Improvement HaU, The chair was taken by the president of tbo society (W. Moor.) Tlio mooting wns opened with singing nnd prayer, after wbich a few remarks were made by the Chairman. Mr Cooksey delivered a vory able address, and was loudly applauded at the conclusion, Several recitations followed, when Mr Floranccr addressed tbe mcctinjj, and kept it in roars of laughter. The doxology terminated the meeting. Match Fimso, — Yesterday a squad of Yeomanry Cavalry and ouo of tlio Engineers proceeded to Hillsborough for the purpose of ilrlng tho return match between tbo two corps. The weather was moderately favourable, but the carbine being uagd, the scoring was ouly of a very Indifferent nature. The conditions wero live shots at each range, with llytlio position and targets. Bridge for widening the present road, provided that the Board would form It In a proper manner and fence it In. The Surveyor's report of works in progress was read ami considered. Tenders for forming the Cemetery Head were opened und considered, when that of Lawrence and Brightmoro for ios por chain was accepted. The correspondence was next discussed, and the following resolutions carried ;— "Tliat iv statement of the expenditure rendered necessary on thej Sumner Road by the closing of tho tunnel, be transmitted to tiie Secretary for Public Works, with a request that a sum in addition to the jt'.'}o already received by tho Board, should be allocated for the purpose of making up such expenditure." "Tliat the Surveyor acknowledge the courtesy of the Christchurch Borough Council in placing willow cuttings at the disposal of the Board." " That the Surveyor be instructed to report upon Mr Ilobbs' letter respecting tbe removal of earth from Gloucester street oast." <« That tho Surveyor acknowledge receipt of tho memorial from residents on tbo Ferry Boad, and inform them that the Hoard will metal the footpath as desired before next winter sets In," " That the Surveyor see Messrs Packer and Son with reference to their offer, and ascertain whether its acceptance would necessitate the Board forming the road nt once," "That tho Surveyor send Mr F.
