ROVERS SOUNDLY BEATEN AT WHAKATANE
A fine opening partnership of 203 runs completed in fast time by R. Cleland (49 retired) and J. Rivett (148 retired) was the feature of the Whakatane P. and T. first innings, in a match with Te Puke Rovers, played on the Whakatane Domain last Saturday. Rivett, who drove powerfully on both sides of the wicket, collected 19 fours and 5 sixes in his innings, while Cleland, though less aggressive than his partner, displayed sound batsmanship. The Te Puke 'bowlers stuck to their task valiantly, but the standard of fielding at times left much to be desired. In successive knocks, Rovers compiled totals of 87 and 31, the chief run getters being D. Caiman (28), I. Crowley (14), N. Conn (12), M. Murray (10 not out) and D. Sea tie (9), Scores: WHAKATANE P.
