2600 GALLONS OF OXYGEN

CONSUMPTION BY TAURANGA * HOSPITAL “In the past five months, we have used 2600 gallons of oxygen,” the medical superintendent (Dr F. Sligo) reported to the Tauranga Hospital Board’s monthly meeting. The board supported his recommendation for £57 to be spent to purchase oxygen decanting'apparatus. This, Dr Sligo stated, would facilitate the filling of the hospital’s own 50gallon cylinders, and would, he said, effect a marked saving in the expense of oxygen within a few months. The 50-gallon containers fitted the anaesthetic machine, stands and other equipment. At the present they cost 7s 6d to refill, on which there was a freight charge of 6s 6d. The new apparatus would be fitted with four large cylinders or bottles, each holding 1350 gallons, and costing only 15s and freight to hire and refill. Th.e superintendent said that equipment which would soon be essentialwas an oxygen tent, which would cost approximately £163. Its purchase, he considered should not be delayed beyond the opening of the children’s ward.
