PLEASANT TRIP TO THE CHATEAU
PARTY COMPOSED OF LOCAL LADIES
Favoured with suitable weather, the trip made by a party of local ladies to Wairakei and the Chateau last week, proved most successful. The members were loud in their praise of the wonderful manner in which the organiser (Mrs J. M. Hodges) had done her job, and also of the competency of the driver (Mr V. Buckton), particularly over the difficult sections of road to Oraka-Koraka. In apprecation of these services, Mrs Hodges and Mr Buckton were presented with small tokens by Mesdames W. Riddell and M. Hickson respectively, on behalf of the party, at the afternoon tea break, taken at Rotorua at 4 p.m., on the return journey. It is understood that the ladies experienced a fall of snow during their stay at the Chateau, and that they were enchanted with the magnificent view obtained from the snow-line to which they had been conveyed by special mountain vehicles. Others ventured to the ski-ing grounds but it is not known whether any ski-ing was attempted. The tourists found their visit to the State Timber Mills, at Whaka, most interesting, and were impressed by the extent of the State Housing project at Rotorua.
Altogether, the members thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and considered the short tour well, worth while.
