Te Puke Business Changes Hands

LAY’S JEWELLERS TAKEN OVER BY SMITH & KIRK MR LAY RETAINS SHOP IN TAURANGA We are advised by Mr T. Lay that lie has disposed of bis Te Puke jewellery shop to Messrs P. Smith and J. Kirk. For some time Mr Lay has been operating two shops, one in Te Puke aiid the other in Tauranga. Mr Lay’s departure from Te Puke, some time ago, left gaps in many organisations in the town and particularly in the affairs of St. John’s Church, in which he had been a great help for many years prior to his sojourn overseas, and again on his return. All will wish him well in the change. Mr Jack Kirk has had an interesting career in Te Puke, and prior to his departure overseas, conducted a very successful taxi service. On his return he was engaged as a mechanic at Granger’s Garage where motorists were very glad of his expert and methodical attentions. Later he transferred his mechanical fingers to the more delicate work of keeping time up to date at Mr Lay’s watchmaking department. Mr Lay was joined by Mr Phil Smith a couple of years ago, and very soon this gentleman fitted neatly into the district’s activities, after his overseas duties terminated. Now, it is pleasing to find that Messrs Smith and Kirk have acquired the business and will shortly be operating as a company.
