SUCCESSFUL HUNT ON SATURDAY
ENTHUSIASM AUGURS WELL FOR REVIVAL OF SPORT
Declared by members as the most successful one held so far this season, the meet conducted by the Te Puke Ward of the Rotorua-Bay of Plenty Bunt Club at Pukehina last Saturday afternoon, attracted approximately 40 riders, including representatives from Whakatane and Rotorua. Incidentally, the two previous hunts this year have been held on a Wednesday. Led by Huntsman Hendrup, of Rotorua, and Whips F. Collins and Hendrup, junr., the field displayed an, enthusiasm which augurs well for the corhplete revival of the sport in the district, and enjoyed a vigorous run shortly after leaving the assembly point. The riders galloped in exhilarating manner across McDougall’s and reached Hawthorne’s estate before the hounds were baffled and lost the scent. The pack, which worked keenly, was handicapped when much of the sport was destroyed by a heavy shower of rain during the early part of the afternoon. Among the local followers were: Mrs B. Paviour and Misses N. Hale and M. 'Slater, and Messrs D. Neilson, Fraser, T. Hauesler, L. Roberts, G. Spencer, D. Shearer, Wrights (3), B. Paviour, O. James, Woodhouse, B. Lloyd, R. Taylor, P. and B. Guy, G. Spencer, M. Hutton, and C. Steele.
A much-appreciated afternoon tea was served at the Pukehina Hall where the riders were joined by a large number, who had followed the progress of the meet in cars.
