Intoxicated In Charge Of Motor Car
LABOURER BEFORE COURT YESTERDAY CONVICTED AND FINED £ls AND LICENCE CANCELLED On a cliai'ge of bring found in a stale of intoxication, and in charge of a motor car on Saturday afternoon last, Richard Anthony Harhord Newton, labourer, of Maketu, aged about 42 years, appeared before Messrs P. W. Allen and IT. Granger, J’s P. in the Te. Puke Police Court yesterday morning. Constable G. M. Roberts, prosecuted. It was stated that accused was driving his car to Maketu at about 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, and after crossing the Waiare bridge, stopped the vehicle and became involved in an argument with, a woman who was travelling with him. On restarting to drive again, Newton bumped into a car owned by Mr Percy Pocock, which was parked a short distance along the road. The matter was reported immediately and accused was arrested by Constable Roberts. Newton was convicted and fined £ls, prohibited, and current drivers’ licence cancelled for twelve months.
