FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1949 Pressing For Rail Link Completion
Mankind needs more often to be reminded than to be informed.”
TANEATU A—GISBORNE GAP EFFORTS OF GISBORNE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE “The completion of the Mata-wai—-Ta’neatua gap. in the Gishoiaie—Aucklaiul railway has been probably the objective on which the chamber has concentrated a p'reat deal of its efforts durinp' the past year, but regrets to report no progress to date,” says the animal report of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce. If one might, parody our great war leader—“never in the history of the chamber has so much effort been spent for so little results.” The chamber has a definite promise from the Minister that a survey will be made when the: requisite personnel are available after sufficient progress has been made on more urgent works to justify their transfer to this survey. At the moment there appears very little possibility of this being brought about for several years. The chamber has suggested the importation of. more skilled personnel for this and other public, works and this the Minister has promised to investigate. “The chamber has no intention of relaxing its pressure on the Minister to keep him. up to bis promise even though it may be some time yet before a start can be made with the' survey, the report added.
