The need to-day is to remedy past damage as fas a possible and to check those tendencies in the future. Such is the purpose of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act Of 1041, and now that the war is over the established Control Council has scope to bring some of the provisions of legislation into practice as soon as possible. In the distribution of plain information about the ruin due to malpractices which are within the control of men, and in spreading knowledge of the ways, to avoid bringing harm to the land, the Council should obtain wholehearted co-operation from all users of farm and forestry lands. It is" essential now for the people as a whole to do everything they can to - avoid the mistakes of the oast and to co-qjierate in applying the remedies that are essential if we are to preserve the heritage of our soil.
