To I’ukc School Grounds. Subscribers to the Te Puke school playground improvements scheme continue to swell the lund. A sum of £IOOO is required and at present subscribers are a long way short of that total. A further list will be published later.

Rubbish Collection. The Chamber of Commerce has asked the Borough Council whether it ean see its way clear to make an additional rubbish collection from houses in tie Borough, particularly from the flat dwellers,, and so help to overcome the iiy menace . * Schools Sports Meeting:. The Combined Schools’ Sports Assn, will hold the primary schools sports at Pongakawa Domain on Friday next, 14th March. This has proved a popular event among the country schools a,nd a great, picnic day results. Pies will be on sale on Friday. Football Clubs Get Ready. The football season is drawing closer and it is hoped that players will get in training in preparation for the opening match which Marist Club has promised. Clubs must hold their annual meetings prior to the annual meeting, of the Rugby Union so that delegates with voting power may be elected.

Film Machine at Pongakawa. Residents of the Pongakawa school district have subscribed and secured a film projector for the school. This was a very worthwhile effort and it is understood that a public screening is being arranged so that all subscribers may see what their generosity has provided. They do things ‘in grand fashion at Pongakawa for it is only recently that tlie school' was given a swimming batii and the Tennis Club laid courts.

Te l‘uke Tclinis Teams. The following players will represent the Te Puke Tennis Club against Rotorua next Sunday at Rotorua for the Watt Cup and Dunlop Shield. A team — Mrs J. Tanner, Mrs W. Butler, Mrs J. Cleary, Miss M. Bayliss, J. Powdrell N. Spratt. E. Steevens and B. Bishop. B team—Misses E. Riddell, B. Brown. Miller, Mrs D. Nesbit,. Messrs C. Muir. W. Flowers, N. B. Williams, W. Butler. The above players are requested to be along at practise matches on Saturday if possible.

Lyceum Club Garden Circle. Tuesday, 4th March, marked the first meeting of (lie Lyceum Club’s Gardening Circle. Members held a Dhalia Day. Votes were taken for the best blooms, the winners being: Mrs A. C. Galpin, decorative and oom: Mrs Bragg, charm: Mrs R. Mark, cactus. A draw for mixed Flag, Lilies was won l>y Mrs Hargreaves. Members are fined one penny if they do not wear a buttonhole to Circle meetings. The Roll Call was "points of interest in the planting of bulbs.” Keen gardeners gav r e helpful knowledge from the Roll Call.

Pacngaroa School Baths. The Paengaroa. school district is to be congratulated on the satisfactory completion of the school baths. The first filling, has now taken place but a little trouble has arisen in regard to sand being pumped up from the 210 foot bore. No doubt this will soon be rectified and the children will soon have their first dip in a magnificent bath. A shallow paddling pool will accommodate ■ the tiny tots. . The hath will serve two purposes as it will be emptied on to the two grass courts below, and this should result in splendid courts in what was previously a dry area, Free Film in Colour. None should miss the opportunity of seeing the film being shown by courtesy of the Soil Erosion and River Control This- will be in Te Puke on Wednesday, I.oth March, and '.will be shown at the High School at 1 p.m. (school children only). At 8 p.m. a free screening will be shown in McDowell’s Hall. The Chamber of Commerce urges all.whoeanto attend this screening. The Council has gone to. no end of trouble to prepare this very fine film and one and all, besides appreciating the colour film, will learn a great deal about soil erosion and what it means.

Wild West Show, Huge crowds were well entertained during the several performances of the Skuthorpe Wild West Show last weekend. Mark Hutton was among the several local riders who put up a good showing, on the bucking broncos and he stayed on very close to the required time. “Ping Pong,” the mule, gave the youngsters much fun but it tipped them, off ,in bunches just when he felt like it. The riders with the show gave splendid entertainment and the fulfil event when, the Ausling brothers rode two crazy broncos at the same time in a small ring showed great horsemanship.
