COAST RAILWAY

EXTENSION TO OPOTIKI Acording to a statement made at a meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council, the extension of the Bay of Plenty railway from Taneatua, the existing railhead, to Opotiki, will be commenced in about three months. Mr T. G. Johnson said he had been informed by Mr A. G. Hultquist, M.P., that, the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R: Semple, had stated that an early start would be made on the extension. An invitation was received from the Opotiki County Council asking the Borough Council to appoint representatives to attend a public meeting to discuss the question of the railway and the improvement of the.OpStiki-Taneaiiia T'ghway. The Mayor, Mr G. WI Moodysaid that, in view of Mr Johnson s statement he did not see that any good would result from, the holding of a public meeting, and the Council decided to reply to the county council explaining this viewpoint.
