POLITICAL

VISIT TO TAURANGA OF CAPT. LYON, M.P.

Capt. W. J. Lyon, M.P. for Waitemata, will visit Tauranga on Auguet Ist (next Monday) and will deliver an address at the Civic Theatre at Tauranga.

Capt. Lyon served in the Great War as an airman and was wounded and returned home. Ho later served in the Intelligence Department of the British War Office. Capt. Lyon is chairman of the Defence Committee of the House of Representatives, and is regarded as one of the best speakers in the present House. Capt. Lyon was defeated for the Hawke’s Bay seat in 1929 but won the Waitemata seat in 1935, defeating Mr C. Harris by over 4,000 votes, his opponent having been a member of the House for 24 years.
