CENTENNIAL STAMPS

COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE An announcement that the New Zealand centennial in 1940 would be commemorated by the issue of a special series of postage stamps was made at Wellington on Friday by the Postmaster-General, Hon. F. Jones. The stamps would range in denominations from id to Is. Mr Jones said that a number of prominent New Zealand artists had been invited to submit competitive drawings for the designs of the stamps and a special sub-committee appointed by the National Historical Committee had selected a series representing various phases of the Dominion’s industrial and historical development. The successful artists were Messrs L. C. Mitchell and -T. Berry, both of Wellington.
