Valedictory

A Social Afternoon A very pleasant sooial afternoon was tendered by members of the Lyceum Club on Tuesday last to Mrs C. Anderson, who leaves shortly to take up her residence at Motu. The privilege of inviting a friend had been extended to members and the attendance therefore numbered between forty and fif y. Mrs T. P. Lemon, President of the Club, was In the chair, The olub room had been attractively decorated for the oocasion with flowers and autumn leaves. The first portion of the aftttaoon was devoted to a musical programme towards which the following ladies contributed Mrs C. Anderson, pianoforte splo, “Humoresque” ; Mes James Tod and Webster, vocal duet, “One Fleeting Hour” ; Mrs Manning, recitation, “The Chubby Bear” ; Mrs Booker and Miss Bush, vocal duet “Shepherdess” ; Mrs Webster solo, "Love’s old Sweet Song” ; Mesdames Perring and Scott, a dialogue, “The YouDg Idea.”

A very tempting afternoon tea was then served by Miss Bush. During an interlude the President welcomed the visitors and expressed her pleasure at seeing so many members present to say goodbye to one of their most esteemed supporters. Mrs Anderson, said Mrs Lemon, had been a great help to the Club and the musical afternoons that she had arranged had been a great attraction. She had givep her time and talent willingly and members would agree that it was difficult to find words in which to give due expression to their appreciation and gratitude. They all regretted Mrs Anderson’s departure and felt sure that she also would regret having to say goodbye to her many friends. Should she at any lime visit the district she could be assured §of a very warm welcome. On behalf of the’ members she wished both Mr and Mrs Anderson the best of good luck and a happy and prosperous future. Mrs Lemon then asked Mrs Anderson to accept as a small token of esteem a box of cake forks, The recipient suitably responded,
