The Anniversary services held in the Methodist Church on Sunday last were well attended both in the morning and evening. The singing by the choir was much appreciated. A dance in aid r of the Paengaroa Hall funds will be held on Friday, June 23fd. The music will be supplied by Rhythm Vendors Orchestra, and a free bus will be available for visitors from Te Puke.
The Whakatane Press reports that there is a keen demand for farms in that district, particularly for areas of from 50 to 100 acres, Rangitaiki lands appeared to be favoured by Taranaki buyers.
Motorists entering .Te Puke from the eastern and western end of the town to-day have been called upon to stop and product their licenses. With Inspectors Bambery, Roy and Perring on duty vary few escaped the holdup.
The Farmers','Go operative Auctioneering Co. notify that they will hold a clearing sale on account of Mrs L. R. McDonald on the farm adjacent to the Kaituna Bridge, on June 29th. The stook to be offered comprises 34 grade Jersey cows, 11 2yr heifers, 4 yearling heifers, Jersey bull, half draught mare, milking plant, implements, and sundries. A further enlargement of the premises known as Paterson's Bargain Stores has almost been completed* jMr Paterson reoently decided to include in his business activities the establishment of a furniture department, and this necessitated the addition mentioned, It is now well-stocked with furniture of every description.
In pursuance of its efforts to effectively deal with', stock disease®, the Rangitaiki Dairy Company has engaged the services of Mr F. F. Hodson, iate bacteriologist to the Taranaki Hospital Board-, to act in a similar capacity, and work in conjunction with MrP. McGregor, who is in charge of tb o Company’s veterinary department.
A settler of Manawahc, Joseph Henry Theobald, aged about 63 years, died on Tuesday last, evidently from heart failure, while cross cut sawing a log of wood in the bush. He had been living at his brother's place for about 12 months, but lately bad bsen engaged in splitting posts, and established a Camp for himself in the bush, where he spent the working days of the week. On Monday morning last lie left for his Camp and Was not seen again until he was found dead where he had been working. An order has been placed in England by Mr J. Muggeridge, entomologist at the Plant, Research Station of the Depar tuent of Agriculture, for a supply N)f the insect parasites which have been found to nrey on the white butterflies. Mr Muggeridge was able to place the order as a result of receiving £IQO from the Hawke's Bay district. The amount was subscribed in the district and donated to the Plant Research Station conditionally on the money belDg used to combat the white butterflies In the dietrbtß where the money was raised. We give a reminder of the School Concert and Dance to be held in the Paengaroa Hall on Friday evening next. A sale of shelter trees, fruit trees, and ornamental shrubs, on account of Mr T. Lock, Mangere. will be held by the N. Z, Loan & Mercantile Co. at their premises, Te Puke, on Tuesday, 20th June. The annual meeting of the Te Puke Bowling Club, called for Friday evening last was not very well attended, owing, no doubt, to the very cold weather, and it was decided therefore, after transacting a little routine business, to adjourn until October. The Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club will hold a meet at Papamoa to-morrow, commencing at 12 noon. Afternoon tea will be provided by the ladies. It is expected that there will be a good muster of followers. On Friday there will be a meet at Gate Pa.
