Farewell To Mr L. S. Paterson S.M. Mr L. S. Paterson S. M., who has received notice of his transfer to the Waikato with Hamilton as his headquarters, paid his last visit to 'J’auranga on Wednesday. In the evening at the request of members of the legal profession in Tauranga and Te Puke and a number of townspeople. he attended at the Courthouse to give those mentioned an jM|rortunity of saying farewell. tributes to the manner in which Mr Paterson bad carried out bis duties as Magistrate in this district were paid by Messrs H. A, Sharp, H. 0. Cooney, J. F. Wallace, W. E. Hookey and L. E. Manning, representing the lato, Messrs A. F. Tunks and B. C. Robbins, Mayor and ex-Mayor of Tauranga respectively, Mr V. J. Scantlebury, for the 'licensing committee and Constable Skinner on behalf of the police. Mr Paterson in reply _ thanked the speakers for their kindly remarks. He had done,his best to administer the law faithfully and impartially and in doing so had received invaluable assistance from the Bar. He regretted having to sever many happy friendships, but hoped to renew these later on.
A small social function was afterwards held in the Magistrate’s room where Mr Sharp asked Mr Paterson’s acceptance of a case of pipes as a mark of the esteem in which he was held. Mr Auld endorsed Mr Sharp’s re marks and Mr Paterson having replied, the gathering dispersed.
