As a result of last Sunday’s motor accident on the Whakatane Road in which several Te Puke residents were concerned and. the breaking of a concrete power pole, the electric power was cut off over a large part of the swamp and in some sheds milking had to be finished by hand. Taranaki is at present conducting experiments with butter boxes. Complaints have been received from Home that some of the butter suffered from wood taint. Most, of the trouble has been traced to foreign timber, but there is a suspicion that some of New Zealand’s white pine is not altogether free from this taint. A preparation principally of a dairying by*product has been invented to ooat the inside of the boxes and it is claimed that this is proving successful.

Two big mobs of Cattle, mostly Hereford and Polled Angus steers are passing through the district from the East Coast stations to the Waikato (says the Rotorua Post).. According to the drovers there are three more big mobs totalling 150 Q. steers due to come through in the course of the next month v The improved outlook for store stock in the Waikato is the reason for this movement.
