Coming Of Age Celebration

The Parish Hall was the scene of a festive gathering on Wednesday evening,, when about ninety guests assembled to join in the celebration organised in honour of the coming of age of Miss Alma Hicks, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. G. Hicks. The hall had been artistically decorated with ferns, daffodils and violets, emblems of the approaching spring. The guests were received by Mrs Hicks, who wore a frock of green figured georgette, whilst Miss Hicks was in a dainty dress of white tulle and lace. A delightful tea was served and thoroughly appreciated, after which a handsome birthday cake was cut and sampled.. The toast of the guest of honour was then proposed by Mr Evan Lowe, those present joining heartily in singing “For she’s a jolly good fellow.” Mr Walter Pilcher proposed the toast of Mr and Mrs Hicks, which was also warmly responded to. Dane ing, interspersed with vocal and instrumental items was then proceeded with, the music being supplied by Chapman’s Orchestra and’extras being played by Misses K. Butcher, J. Palmer and Mr R. Cleary. Songs warefContifhdted by Miss J. Hicks and a steel guitar by Mr L. s/icTinjx. Community singing was also indulged in. A Spot waltz was/won by Miss V. Reilly arid. T. Kennedy, a Monte Carl\»y Miss J. Finlay and Miss V. Hicks and a guessing competition by Miss E. Keys. The proceedings terminated with all present joining hands and singing the universal favourite "Auld Lang Syne”.
