The Te Puke Times FRIDAY, OCT. 14,1927

THE movement for the establishment of a dental clinic in Te Puke, although apparently dormant, has not been allowed to die out, for Mr Urquhart, Chairman of the local School Committee, is still working quietly with this object in view. One step that has been taken for the advancement of this project has been the formation of a School Committees Association, the committees affiliated being the Papamoa, Te Puke, Paengaroa, Pongakawa and Matata, for it is from these localities that the children would come to receive the benefits to be derived from such an institution. The question of finance is, of course, a stumbling block to a certain extent, but Mr Urquhart is optimistic enough to believe that this does not present an insurmountable difficulty. The terms upon which the Department consents to the establishment |'of a clinic in any centre are thattho people should find the land and one-third of the cost of the building. The salary of a nurse who would be permanently stationed in the town would be paid by the Department. Mr Urquhart contends that an effort should be made to erect a bulding to comprise the Clinic, a Restroom and a Boy’s Gymnasium, with possibly a reading-room and library. He points out that it might be possible to obtain contributions from the fund raised some time since for the purchase of a High School site, and also from the fund raised by the Commercial Travellers for hospital purposes and held by Mr Gill, as well as from the amount in the hands of the War Memorial Committee. So far as the land is concerned, he is of opinion that a portion of the Mission Hall site could be secured at a reasonable figure, whilst the nurse who would bo in attendance daily could act in the capacity of caretaker of the building. The case made Out by Mr Urquhart appears to be a feasible one ; it is certainly worth consideration, and if the various public bodies throughout the district were to go into the matter there seems to be no reason why the matter should not be advanced beyond the theoretical stage.
