FARMERS’ UNION MATTERS
c ° (By the Official Reporter), in News with regard to the doings 0 f of the union this weekMs necessQr urily sparse on account of the !8 , railway strike. Not only had to correspondence bean bald 0 f rho members of the Executive jp have not been able to visit town ih ihe ordinary way, Ic is also -j. j worthy of note that the meeting |of the Dominion Executive, j which should have taken place i on Aril3o;h, had to br postponed h j With the railways inactive, it j was clearly impossible to expect '■ anything like a representative attendance. Tne postponement of ~ the meeting has further necessib tated the cancellation of the t- programme for the "Dominion >. Rallies” in the North and South Islands. When I say cancellation "> I mean that they have been can* t celled for the time being, but the, 3. intention to touch every part of b New Zealand within the next o few months has not been abandis oned. The Auckland Executive f- as ono of the big sections of the 3 union,■ fully realises that if good *• work is to be done farmers in all a parts cf the .-country must be e given an opportunity to under- ® stand what the organisation f stands for The best wav toaccomplish this is by an of ideas which tends to bring the' various sections of the farming community into harmonious effisrt to achieve a common object. 1 THE PROVINCIAL j CONFERENCE. , A matter of considerable im--2 portance to branches throughout s I the district i 3 the decision of the | Executive that all numbers of i the union should be welcomed j to the aunual conference Hitheri to delegates have been appointed from the various branches to attend the conferences, and they 1 have been given a voting status in recognition of their official capacity. The Executive, however, has come to the conclusion that many unofficial members might like to attend the conference, and such being the case, they should ha allowed to take part in the discussions without screwing a delegatory vote, ibis is a fine democratic spirit, ; as it gives every farmer in thß province the right to attend the conference and express his opinion upon any and every subject under deliberation, while at the same time it guards the other side of democratic representation by letting the branch speak through its properly appointed | representative. The provincial secretary is now sending out invitations, and it is to be hoped that individual farmers will not fail to fit in them city engagements with the of the conference. Every member of the union will be welcome, and hi 3 voice heard, even if ha has not the official right to vote
