The Conservator of State Forests at Rotorua, Mr H. A. Goudie, has notified the Whakatane County Council that 5000 young Eucalyptus Eugenoides, in trays, had been reserved for the Council next year. These were suitable for the purpose of electric light poles. The Ashburton County Council (says the Guardian) has just completed its biggest deal in timber. It has sold the Chertsey pin us insignus plantation to a Christchurch timber company at 3s 3d per 100 superficial feet. It. is estimated that the plantation will produce 1£ million feet. Mr Forbes Eadie, who is t.o address Te Puke farmers shortly on matters connected with the Farmers’ Union, is reported to be a vigorous platform speaker He is a brother-in-law of Mr Charlie Miller, of this town, having married Miss Ann Miller, formerly a well-known horsewoman at the local shows.

A late cable message states 18,000 men employed at one of Henry Ford’s automobile works have been dismissed under the order forbidding them to use any intoxicating liquors. Nearly 2000 were also instructed to hand in their tools for an indefinite period of suspension. The annual Methodist Home Mission services will be held in the Mission Hall on Sunday, September 24th, the morning and evening services being conducted by Rev. Lewis of Tauranga. On Monday, September 25th, at 7.30 p m. Rev. Lewis will deliver an address entitled “A Rambler’s Yarns,” relating experiences and adventures in Great Britain, France, Holland. Belgium, Ger many, Austria, Switzerland, Egypt, . Palestine. Syria, and America. The address will be interspersed musical items. Suppet will bt provided, and acollec tion will be taken up in aid of the Home Mission Fund. Members and intending members of the Te Puke Rifle Club are reminded that the *openiug shoot of the season will be held on the range on Saturday next. As this shoot is mainly for handicap purposes for coming compe titions, ail members are asked to attend. Absentees will be handicapped as Class “A” shots. Ter ritorials and Cadets wishing to join the club must hand in their names, with subscription (59), to the Secretary not later than Friday next. Ammunition can only be obtained on the range from the Secretary.
