A match between the Te Puke ladies’ hockey club and the Whakatane club was played at Thornton yesterday, the game ending in a draw—3 all. For Te Puke Kura Mends scored 2 goals and Rene Hicks 1 goal. At half time the scores were Te Puke 2, Whakatane nil, but in the latter part of the game Whakatane had easily the best of it, and overran the visiting team. The members of the Te Puke Ladies’ Hockey Club and the United Football Club are combining* to hold a dance in the Alliance flail on Monday ening as a windup to the recently-concluded son. An energetic committee from the two clubs has the arrangements well in hand, and with music by Mr and Mrs Woods, a good floor, and an excellent supper, intending patrons are assured of a pleasant evening. The price of admission has been resstricted to 2s 6d, ladies free. The social and dance in aid of the funds of the Catholic Church, held on Wednesday evening was a pronounced success, fully one hundred couples being present, whilst the arrangements were excellent Mr Flynn made an admirable M.C., and was assiduous in his efforts to find partners for all. For those who did not dance card tables were provided. Mr and Mrs Woods, as 'usual, supplied the music, whilst a most bountiful supper, provided Dy the ladies of the congregation, was handed round, and thoroughly appreciated. A special word of praise is due to Miss Maxwell, the secretary, for her untiring efforts to ensure the enjoyment of all.
