They assured ' the council that the block consisted of country which would be worth developing and was sufficiently easy to carry grass A reply has - now been received from the minister stating that according to a report obtained by him this block consists of poor steep country intersected by gorges, cliffs'and precigp "pices, the whole being covered ~ by black birch with patches of tawainthe gullies and a few rough rimu trees on the steep 'Hillsides. ;The report adds -that if the bush;, is felled when the roots begin to rot the, whole face slips from the top of the range, leaving only rock. Residents, of the Matawai-say. this bush is '"well known as a harbour for wild and stray cattle.
